Childsafe Policy

Merrivale Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people and their families.
We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students.
We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments.
We promote positive relationships between students and adults and between students and their peers. These relationships are based on trust and respect.

The Merrivale Primary School Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy demonstrates our school’s commitment to creating and maintaining a child safe and child-friendly organisation, where children and young people are safe and feel safe.

Reports and Plans

MPS Annual Report_2024_4215 Final

The Annual Report provides an opportunity to share the school’s achievements and progress with the school community. It is a legislative requirement that all Victorian government schools prepare an Annual Report by 30 April each year, and that this includes specific information on student outcomes, attendance and financial activities.

Merrivale Primary School (4215) – 2025 – AIP – Snapshot Final

An Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) in the Department of Education and Training (DET) context outlines how a school’s strategic goals and objectives will be achieved over the course of a year. It’s a detailed plan that breaks down the school’s strategic plan into actionable steps, specifying how key improvement strategies will be implemented, monitored, and evaluated. The AIP serves as a roadmap for the school community, ensuring that all members are working towards the same goals.

Preventing and Addressing Racism

Our Commitment

Racism is not tolerated at Merrivale Primary School.

Merrivale PS is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe environment where every student feels respected, supported and able to learn. Racism negatively affects wellbeing, learning and a sense of belonging, and we are determined to ensure that all members of our school community feel valued.

We proudly celebrate the diverse cultures, identities, ethnicities and faiths within our school. It is the shared responsibility of all students, staff, families and community members to help make Merrivale PS a place that is free from racism and discrimination.

What Merrivale PS is doing to prevent racism

Merrivale PS follows the Department of Education’s Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools policy. We work with staff, students, families, carers and community partners to build a culturally safe school environment. We will:

  • provide programs and learning opportunities that teach about and celebrate diversity, inclusion and the impact of racism
  • use teaching and wellbeing practices that support every student to thrive
  • implement clear, proactive anti-racism measures to both prevent and address racism
  • ensure that all students and families know how to report racism and feel safe to do so
